About Abundant

Abundant Produce is Australia’s only ASX listed (ABT) hybrid plant breeder, dedicated to Australia’s world class agri-science research into commercially valuable intellectual property.

Tired of tasteless fruit and vegetables, Abundant Produce set out to drive change and create seeds of the future, growing tomatoes that were over two times sweeter than those available and vegetables that gave better taste and quality and were appropriate for the harsh Australian climate and conditions.

Focused on the development and commercialisation of new varieties of high-value food crops, particularly greenhouse vegetables such as cucumbers and tomatoes, and by selecting breeding transforming lines used by scientists at the University of Sydney, they aim to produce better varieties with superior flavour and disease resistance to gain commercial and competitive advantage in a global landscape that will continue to be impacted by climate change.

Plant IP

In a unique collaboration between two of Australia’s senior research institutions, the University of Sydney and UNSW, Abundant Produce takes advantage of new research in molecular biology, plant pathology, agronomy and chemistry to create high-value food crops and botanically active extracts for the booming cosmetic and nutraceutical industries along with seeds for the global agricultural industry.

This is in response to the growing awareness worldwide that many of the advancements and efficiencies made in breeding and growing food over recent decades have come at the cost of nutritional value, and a growing awareness of the efficacy of natural ingredients making natural products the fastest growing segment in the personal care market.

As plant IP Technologists, they distil Australian intellectual property into hardy seeds which are sold through Abundant Seeds Pty Ltd to growers and distributors, opening up new countries to horticultural production and helping them to meet a burgeoning world demand for healthy, fresh fruits and vegetables; and into potent extracts which they have incorporated into an innovative skincare line, sold through Abundant Natural Health Pty Ltd.

Australian Owned, Grown and Made

Australia leads the way in the global agricultural arena. It produces improved yields in harsher conditions and is held to a higher standard in tougher conditions in terms of quality, processes and produce.
Abundant Produce’s mantra is ‘Better growth for Australian Farmers’; their goal is to get as much return as possible for them as well as to lead the way on the global agricultural stage.

As Abundant Produce’s CEO Tony Crimmins outlines, “We’re the only Australian plant breeder which stands us apart from the rest; we’re flexible, agile, and can experiment and make the mistakes on Australian soil that are applicable globally. We know that if we can make it work in Australia that we can make it work anywhere and that’s the true value that we take to the global community. A business like ours hasn’t been seen for over a decade.”

Agility and Creativity

Abundant Produce breeds plants and seeds for better yield, disease resistance, temperature, tolerance, taste, texture, colour and shape-all without artificial genetic modification. They particularly focus on developing plants which produce high yields of high quality vegetables in challenging conditions, such as temperature extremes, poor soil quality and limited water availability.

With a passion for innovation and creativity, Abundant Produce’s agility is its strength; they experiment continually, they can make mistakes and therefore create new shapes, colours and tastes very quickly. Lack of imagination is their only constraint.

Quality and Traceability

Whilst the market demands high quality and high flavour, there has also been a change in focus and a higher demand for ‘clean’ foods; all of Abundant Produce’s breeding is done without GMO, therefore satisfying this evolving global trend.

Abundant Produce is also passionate about the traceability of its produce and can give full visibility from the research process right through to growing their plants at the University of Sydney’s Plant Breeding Institute at Cobbitty.

Quality is at the heart of everything they do; from their scientific research to the academic institutions that they collaborate with, the experts that they employ and the superiority of the plants and seeds that they produce.

Commercial Focus

Abundant Produce, with its business model based around plant science, continues to pursue opportunities for innovation generated by their ongoing and highly successful collaboration with the Universities; relentlessly seeking the highest value add opportunities and outsourcing commodity production to maximise margins and shareholder value.

Our brands

Abundant Produce specialises in plant breeding and IP development. Operating under two brands currently and with further plans to diversify, they produce vegetable varietals for the global food and nutraceutical industries; breeding plants for seed sales to sell to food growers via Abundant Seeds and high active plants for their potent extractions which they incorporate into their active skin and body care ranges sold via Abundant Natural Health.
